Did you know that bats can eat up to 3,000 insects in a single night and the common pipistrelle bat weighs less than a £1 coin? If you’re interested in learning more about these night creatures and actually seeing them yourself then come along on the bat walk being organised by the Friends of Lyme Valley Parkway. The walk through the Lyme Valley Park takes place on Friday evening, 29th June between 8.45pm and 11.00 pm. We will be meeting in the car park, which is behind the Newcastle Homebase store, Brook Lane, Newcastle-under-Lyme.
On the walk there will be a special opportunity to use bat detectors which give you the chance to hear the bat’s high frequency sounds with your own ears. With experienced guides from the Staffordshire Bat Group on hand it will be a great chance to get to know the unusual lifestyle of bats. Why do they hibernate? Which bats hang upside down? If you’re curious for the answers then please do come along.
Everyone is welcome, there is no cost and there is no need to book in advance. The walk is on level pathways and is therefore suitable for wheelchair users. No equipment is necessary but suitable shoes; warm clothing and perhaps a torch are recommended. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please contact Elizabeth on 07904 189579 for further details.
