We are hosting a community planting session in the award winning Lyme Valley Parkway. Visitors will be able to help plant holly, and other small bushes to encourage wildlife into the Community Garden, situated in the Lyme Valley Allotment site. You will also be able to assist in planning the wildflower area and creating small animal habitats in readiness for winter. Children are invited to join in with their own fun wildlife activities and games. Staffordshire Wildlife, who will be there on the day to give us a hand, have been supporting the community garden project since the allotments opened earlier this year.
In addition we have had 10,000 crocus bulbs donated to us by the Rotary Club of Stoke-on-Trent, to plant in the of Lyme Valley Parkway. These have been purchased to support the ‘End Polio Now’ Rotary International Campaign, which is funding immunization projects in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyse children, robbing them of their futures. Purple crocus bulbs are being planted nationwide and they will all bloom on February 23rd, which is Rotary Day. The purple colour represents the colour of ink dabbed on a child’s little finger to indicate it has been immunized against polio. Focus on the Crocus is believed to be the biggest single charitable bulb plant to support any global health programme in the world.
All volunteers will be provided with gloves and spades, however you are welcome to bring along your own planting tools…but don’t forget your wellies!”
